Mental Health America
Mental Health America seeks an experienced professional to develop and manage awareness and education programs that address mental health and wellness. Main job responsibilities include:
- Developing program plans, budgets, timelines, evaluation tools, proposals and reports;
- Preparing educational materials in all media;
- Conducting research and program evaluation;
- Managing relationships with partner organizations;
- Supervising department staff and interns;
- Providing technical assistance and training; and
- Planning and executing special events and other activities.
Requirements: 5-7 years experience in consumer health education/health communications with strong program planning/management, writing, cultural competence and supervisory skills. Knowledge of mental health issues and prevention practice preferred. Masters degree in public health, psychology, social work, or related field a plus. The position is located in Alexandria, VA. Director of Public Policy and Advocacy
Mental Health America
A national voluntary health organization with over 300 affiliates throughout the country, Mental Health America (MHA) seeks a highly motivated individual for the position of Director of Public Policy and Advocacy. This position will be focused primarily on carrying out state policy initiatives while closely collaborating with MHA's state and local affiliates and regional policy leaders. The person filling this position will also assist with federal policy and advocacy as needed, including by supporting MHA's national grassroots advocacy campaigns. Responsibilities will primarily include tracking and monitoring state legislation, conducting research on state policy issues, identifying policy trends, providing technical assistance to MHA affiliates and staff, co-hosting advocacy meetings, leading advocacy training activities, and developing written analyses and reports on policy issues.
The Director of Public Policy and Advocacy will lead MHA's advocacy efforts regarding evidence-based health care including educating and engaging state advocates on this issue. These duties will also include directing the National Working Group on Evidence-based Health Care, a coalition of consumer advocacy groups working together to promote appropriate use of evidence-based research to support patient-driven care. The ideal candidate will have:
A Master's degree or other post baccalaureate degree in a substantive area related to national health or human service policy or a Bachelor's degree and 5 years of policy work experience, Practical experience developing and implementing advocacy campaigns,
Awareness of major mental health and addiction public policy concerns and trends regarding evidence-based health care, Excellent written and oral communication skills, Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups and individuals, Computer experience and familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook, Ability to travel for meetings and conferences.

Manager, Consumer Advocacy and Recovery Initiatives
NCSTAC (National Consumer Supporter Technical Assistance Center)/Mental Health America
NCSTAC, supported through CMHS-SAMHSA consumer support/supporter technical assistance funding, is recruiting a motivated, capable individual with first hand experience in mental health recovery as the Manager of Consumer Advocacy.
This is a 20 hour per week key staff position that works to expand consumer/survivor participation through promotion of community-based, consumer-driven projects. The Manager will work to support the goals of MHA's National Consumer Supporter Technical Assistance Center (NCSTAC) and Recovery Initiatives through our Consumer TAC: strengthening consumer/peer-run organizations through financial support and technical assistance, and expanding our recovery resource materials and TAC.
Expertise is required in oral and written communications, organizational skills, computer technology, and working with peer-run organizations. The ability to self-direct work efforts is essential. The individual must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook) and be able to work cooperatively, be detail oriented and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Offices are located in Northern Virginia and staff is expected to work in offices, however, some out of the area travel will be required to work with consumer/survivor organizations and attend conferences as needed.

Assistant Center Director
National Technical Assistance Center for Mental Health Consumer and Family Networks
This full-time position is key to the operation of the Center as this individual will be the primary support staff for the Center Directors and will be responsible for carrying out the day-to-day tasks and coordinating the activities of the Center. Accordingly, the successful candidate must be highly organized, able to coordinate multiple tasks and priorities and work with on-site and off-site staff successfully. Knowledge of mental health and substance abuse fields, experience providing and/or coordinating training and TA and experience with multi-site program-level data collection preferred. Applicants must be mental health consumers or family members. Position is based in Albany, NY, with some travel required. Salary range for this position is mid- to high 40s.
